More Than Just Pastries: The Story of La Casita Bakeshop's Passion and Success

Walk into any coffee shop in DFW, and there's a good chance you'll encounter two things: the aroma of freshly roasted beans and a delectable pastry from La Casita Bakeshop. But La Casita's story is more than just delicious treats. It's a journey of passion, dedication, and the unwavering pursuit of a dream.

A Name Steeped in Heritage

The name La Casita (little house) reflects the warmth and comfort Maricsa Trejo, the bakery's founder, wanted to create.Inspired by her Latina roots and her mother's endearing habit of adding "-ita" to everything cute, Maricsa imbues her French-inspired creations with a touch of Hispanic heritage.

From Traveling Baker to Hometown Hero

Maricsa's journey began in 2017 after she and her husband Alex returned from exploring the culinary world. Inspired by experiences in Puerto Rico, Thailand, and Portland's renowned baking scene, they started small, trading burger buns for a space to bake pastries for local cafes. Armed with self-taught skills and a Craigslist sheeter, Maricsa's reputation for exceptional pastries quickly grew.

From Kitchen Counter to Brick-and-Mortar Success

Fueled by passion and late nights, Maricsa and Alex soon outgrew their initial workspace. In late 2019, their dream materialized with the opening of their first brick-and-mortar store in Richardson. The response was overwhelming. Lines formed before opening, and the initial stock sold out within minutes. This pattern continued, a testament to the quality and allure of La Casita's offerings.

Adapting and Thriving

The arrival of the pandemic in 2020 presented a challenge, but La Casita's team pivoted swiftly. They leveraged their newly established online ordering system and launched a curbside pickup model, effectively navigating the changing landscape.

Growth and Recognition

La Casita's success story continued. The team expanded, welcoming Brianna Short as a partner and acquiring La Casita Garden, a charming event venue. They moved to a larger bakery space, allowing them to cater to an even wider customer base.

Accolades and a Bright Future

Maricsa's dedication and La Casita's exceptional offerings have garnered well-deserved recognition. From D Magazine's "Best Order Ahead Bakery" award to a James Beard Award nomination for Outstanding Baker, La Casita has established itself as a national force in the baking world.

A Shared Celebration

La Casita's success is a testament to the power of passion, community, and a commitment to excellence. They continue to celebrate creativity and share their delicious creations with the world. With "something tropical" on the horizon, La Casita promises to keep delighting taste buds and hearts for years to come.
